Could a Low-Cost iPhone Boost Apple’s Earnings and Market Share?

According to BTIG Analyst Walter Piecyk, Apple needs to launch a new, low-cost iPhone in order to boost earnings and market share. Piecyk, in an investors note, stated that he has raised his opinion on Apple stock from “neutral” to “buy” based on the assumption that Apple will...

Apple Rumors: iOS 18 AI features

By now, you’ve likely heard that Apple is making significant strides in the AI arena to compete with giants like Microsoft and Google. Its forthcoming M4 chipset for Macs and MacBooks is being tailored for AI tasks. And when it comes to mobile devices, the upcoming iOS 18 is set to heavily integrate AI, introducing new AI-powered capabilities to your iPhone.

According to Bloomberg’s Apple insider Mark Gurman, Apple intends to maintain its privacy-centric approach with its AI endeavors, at least to the extent possible.

“As the world awaits Apple’s big AI unveiling on June 10, it looks like the initial wave of features will work entirely on device,” Gurman wrote in his paid Power On newsletter (first highlighted by MacRumors). “That means there’s no cloud processing component to the company’s large language model, the software that powers the new capabilities.”

iPhone iOS 18

What does this mean?

In essence, Apple seems committed to safeguarding user privacy by ensuring that data remains “on device.” Many AI platforms typically necessitate sending data to their cloud servers since generative AI models are often resource-intensive. However, if Apple adheres to this approach, your data will stay within your iPhone, with the device’s processing power handling AI tasks.

One potential hurdle is that even newer iPhone models might struggle with particularly demanding AI features. Some features may not be available on older iPhone models at all.

Yet, there appears to be another caveat. Apple can fully commit to its privacy standards only for products it directly controls. Given its relatively lagging position in the AI race compared to rivals, Apple is seeking partnerships with third-party companies to expedite the rollout of its AI products.

According to Gurman, Apple has explored AI collaborations with OpenAI, Google, and even China-based Baidu. Users of iOS features powered by the cloud infrastructure of these companies may find their data leaving their devices.

Although Apple is reportedly developing its own cloud infrastructure for AI tasks, it may not be ready in time for the iOS 18 announcement. This is where third-party partnerships are expected to come into play.

While these details are subject to change, Gurman’s reporting is credible. Ultimately, nothing will be finalized until Apple makes its announcements, likely at this year’s WWDC in June.

The Enigmatic iPhone Notification – Around a week ago, iPhone users worldwide were jolted by a cryptic notification signaling a potential spyware threat. Despite Apple’s brief explanation on such alerts, details regarding this specific incident remained elusive.

Unraveling the Mystery: Blackberry’s Revelation

Recent insights from cybersecurity firm Blackberry have shed light on the enigma. Their investigation points to LightSpy, a sophisticated iOS implant, as the culprit behind the alarming notifications. This revelation raises concerns, given LightSpy’s prior use during the 2020 Hong Kong protests.

Understanding LightSpy: A Sophisticated Surveillance Tool

LightSpy emerges as a potent surveillance tool, capable of extracting a plethora of sensitive data from targeted devices. From precise location tracking to intercepting messaging app content and recording audio, LightSpy poses a formidable threat to user privacy.

Targets and Tactics: US Not Targeted Yet

Primarily targeting individuals in Southeast Asia, notably India, LightSpy’s modus operandi centers around popular messaging platforms like QQ, WeChat, and Telegram. Additionally, it can access payment records, particularly from WeChat Pay users.

Blackberry suggests the involvement of China-based or Chinese-speaking actors in the LightSpy campaign, with potential state-sponsored backing. This aligns with past occurrences and raises concerns about the broader implications of state-sponsored cyber activities.

Protecting Against Sophisticated Threats: Apple’s Lockdown Mode

In response to these evolving threats, Apple recommends the use of Lockdown Mode to safeguard against sophisticated cyber attacks. This feature serves as a crucial defense mechanism for users targeted due to their employment or activism.

The emergence of LightSpy underscores the ongoing challenges in safeguarding personal data and devices against sophisticated threats. As technology continues to advance, proactive measures and heightened vigilance are imperative in mitigating such risks.

iPhone 16 release date and other rumors

It’s been a few months since the unveiling of the iPhone 15 series, and as expected, the rumor mill is already buzzing with speculations about the iPhone 16. From design tweaks to potential camera upgrades, here’s a roundup of what we know so far.

Rent iPhones and more

Release Date:
Anticipated to follow Apple’s traditional fall release pattern, the iPhone 16 lineup is likely to hit the shelves sometime in September 2024. Barring any unforeseen delays like those seen in 2020, where the iPhone 12 launched in October, September seems to be a safe bet for the debut of the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro models.

Price:
While the iPhone 15 lineup didn’t see across-the-board price hikes, except for the iPhone 15 Pro Max, there’s speculation that the iPhone 16 series might see a slight uptick in prices. With component costs possibly on the rise, it wouldn’t be surprising to see a modest increase in the price tags of all iPhone 16 models, although the extent of this increase remains to be seen.

Design:
The iPhone 16 lineup is rumored to bring some significant design changes, particularly to the standard iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus models. Leaks suggest a departure from the diagonal camera layout, with a move towards a vertical pill-shaped camera island reminiscent of the iPhone X but slightly larger to accommodate additional lenses and sensors. There’s also talk of a possible Action button addition, according to earlier reports.

For the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max, design changes may be less drastic, with a rumored new Capture button below the sleep/wake button, possibly capacitive and flush with the phone’s frame. Additionally, color options are expected to include soft pink, yellow, green, and blue for the standard models, while the Pro models may feature a new “White Titanium” option alongside the existing titanium finish.

Displays:
While the display sizes for the standard iPhone 16 variants are expected to remain unchanged, reports suggest that the Pro models could see an increase in screen size, with the iPhone 16 Pro potentially sporting a 6.3-inch display and the Pro Max jumping to 6.9 inches. To complement these changes, Apple is said to be implementing a new display technology called Border Reduction Structure (BRS) to reduce bezel size and improve overall display quality.

Specs:
The base model iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus are rumored to feature an A17 chip, while the Pro models may see variations of an A18 chip. Reports also hint at improvements in thermal design to address overheating concerns, possibly incorporating graphene thermal systems and metal battery casings. Additionally, the Pro models are speculated to utilize Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X75 modem for enhanced 5G connectivity.

Cameras:
The standard iPhone 16 models are expected to feature a dual-camera layout in a vertical pill-shaped island, while the Pro models may retain the triple-lens setup seen in previous iterations. Camera upgrades are anticipated for the Pro models, with a potential 48-megapixel ultrawide sensor and improvements in optical zoom capabilities.

Battery Life:
Rumors suggest that the iPhone 16 Pro models may benefit from stacked battery technology, offering higher capacity and longer lifespans. This could lead to faster wired and MagSafe charging speeds, addressing a longstanding concern among users.

Software and Updates:
With the iPhone 16 lineup slated to arrive in the fall, it’s expected to debut alongside iOS 18, potentially introducing new AI-powered features exclusive to the new devices. Improvements to Siri, enhanced AI interactions, and better integration with productivity apps are among the rumored enhancements expected to accompany the release of iOS 18.

As with any pre-launch rumors, it’s essential to take these speculations with a grain of salt until confirmed by official announcements from Apple. Nonetheless, the prospect of the iPhone 16 brings excitement and anticipation for what lies ahead in the realm of smartphone innovation.

Need to Rent iPhones in Bulk?

If you’re looking to rent iPhones in bulk for your next event, you’re in luck. Apple recently released the latest phone in the X series, the iPhone XR. And just like always, when a new iPhone hits the market, the prices on existing Apple products drops – an ideal opportunity for you to test your latest app or smartphone-powered VR headset at a fraction of the cost by renting an older model iPhone, like the 8, 7+, and others. Or you can provide the newest tech for your testers to use by renting the iPhone XR. No matter your iPhone rental needs, we have you covered. Read on to learn more about our wide selection of iPhone rental options available for your next event or business requirement.

iPhone X Series Rentals

How does the XR stack up?

Meant to be an introductory model, the iPhone XR is proving to be a hit with iPhone customers and reviewers alike. With many of the features compatible just as good as or better than the X, XS, and XS Max, the XR offers superb performance at a lower price.

The edge-to-edge 6.1-inch LCD display screen of the XR puts it in the middle between the XS and XS Max. The Gorilla Glass that encases the XR is the strongest front glass ever created, developed by Corning specifically for the iPhone. If weight and self-expression are something you consider in your iPhone selection, the lightweight aerospace-grade aluminum casing of the XR offered in a wide range of colors gives it a distinct advantage over its X series competitors.

The 12-megapixel camera with 5X zoom and three portrait light effects leave it at a slight disadvantage to its sister models, which boast 10X zoom and five portrait lighting effects. Though, if you’re not using your iPhone for more serious photography, this difference may be negligible enough to overlook. The only serious disadvantage that the XR has is that its internal storage is limited to 256GB, but if you’re diligent about backing up materials to iCloud for storage and keeping your phone relatively clutter-free then the cost savings may be enough to offset the lower storage capacity.

iPhones on a budget

Discount iPhone rentals

Want all the wow for less green? We still offer the iPhone 8, 7+, 7, and 6 for those who need to offer the iOS experience on a budget. If you’re demoing a new mobile game or setting up a check-in kiosk for a huge conference, the better camera and larger screen size offered by the X series may be unnecessary fluff for your users. With high-quality cameras, excellent displays, and intuitive interface, these models offer many of the same features as their newer cousins in the X series at a fraction of the cost.

Take your pick

The X series may be the latest offering from Apple, but the high quality of Apple’s product line makes the iPhone 8, 7+, 7, and 6 compatible with any smartphone on the market. If you’re organizing an event and need to rent iPhones in bulk, we can help you. Whether you want to create a unique user experience on a budget by renting an older model iPhone or need to offer your attendees the latest technology, our sister company, Rentacomputer.com, proudly offers a wide array of iPhone rentals to suit all of your smartphone rental needs. No matter where your event is, Rentacomputer.com can help. Get a quote for all your equipment needs today!

Apple Sells 13 Million iPhone 6S Devices In First Weekend

Posted by admin | Posted in Apple News, Consumer Electronics, New Products | Posted on 28-09-2015

Apple has officially released its newest smartphones, the iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus. Even though the devices have only been on the market for less than a week, they have already posted some very impressive sales numbers. According to a recent sales report from Apple, the company has sold over 13 million new devices over the weekend, which is a new record for the iPhone, The CEO of the company has made sure the marketing of this new project blows the sales up to the roof, just like the Jimmy John Shark CEO of one of the most successful businesses.

According to Apple CEO Tim Cook’s press statement, “Sales for iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus have been phenomenal, blowing past any previous first-weekend sales results in Apple’s history. Customers’ feedback is incredible and they are loving 3D Touch and Live Photos, and we can’t wait to bring the iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus to customers in even more countries on October 9th.”

So what’s the reason for such high sales numbers? Probably the fact that Apple included China in its opening weekend sales. China passed over Europe to become Apple’s second biggest market earlier in the year, with sales growing three times faster than in North and South America. To compare, Apple sold 10 million units of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus in its opening weekend last year and 9 million units of the iPhone 5S and 5C the year before that. In both cases, the launch of the smartphones in China was delayed.

So what’s new with the iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus? Well for starters, these new smartphones come preloaded with Apple’s latest iOS 9 operating system. In addition to that, the new phones come with the new A9 chip with 64-bit architecture and M9 motion coprocessor. There’s 2GB of RAM as well as a 12MP rear-facing camera and a 5MP front-facing camera. 4K resolution is also supported at 30fps along with 4.2 Bluetooth.

Granted the changes aren’t astounding, but they are decent. Are they enough for people to upgrade from the iPhone 6 or 6 Plus to the iPhone 6S or 6S Plus? Probably not. But they are good enough to get people to go from an iPhone 5 model (or earlier) and, maybe, good enough for some people to make the jump from an Android device to an Apple.

Apple Has Officially Announced Its Next iPhone Event

Apple has finally released its next upcoming iPhone event, which will be on September 9, 2015. Apple has been pretty quiet about what its latest announcement will be about, but there are already some hints about it.

For home viewers, now’s the time to pay attention! Windows users can now livestream the press conference, which is new for Apple. Unfortunately, viewers using Windows PCs can only use Microsoft’s new Edge browser to watch the event. Apple is limiting users using Google’s Chrome browser because of the lack of support for Apple’s preferred HTTP Live Streaming HLS format.

Also during the event, Apple will be announcing two new iPhone 6 models. There won’t be a 4-inch “iPhone 6c,” like there has been rumored. Supposedly 9to5mac’s Mark Gurman says Apple is retiring the smaller iPhone c product line due to an “aging feature set.” On the bright side, according the site, Apple is working on developing a new 40-inch phone product, but it won’t be released this year. If you’re interested in watching the iPhone event, then your best bet is using Microsoft’s Edge browser.

Stay tuned here for all the news and info coming out of the event as we will report on it when it drops!

Apple Seeks Total Dominance Over Your Entire Life

Apple is trying very hard to sneak its way into your entire life. On Monday, the company released its new updates on the software that iPhones, iPads, Macs and Apple Watches run on. It also revealed the iOS 9 and Mac OS X 10.11 El Capitan during the conference. A major plus with Apple’s operating system is how well it has its devices work together and can be a very big aid for your business as long as you find the correct software to use, for example the new payroll technology.

The Apple company’s message is pretty much becoming reality, “It’s Apple’s world, you’re just living in it.” Last year, the iPhone and Mac computer were shown working hand-in-hand, allowing you to start emails or phone calls on either your smartphone or computer and having the option of switching to the other one. As of this year, Apple has branched off into our cars and homes and even how we buy things and listen to music.

The only thing holding you back from allowing Apple to run your life could possibly be finances. The only way to have all your Apple devices work properly would be to completely commit to the Apple ecosystem. Not only do you need an iPhone or MacBook, but you also need to upgrade all your household appliances to smart-home products, so they can work off the HomeKit software. This also means buying a whole new car, a CarPlay-compatible car to be exact, as well as buying the Apple Music streaming service. We’re talking about a LOT of money going into ALL new products!

Get a Quote on a MacBook Pro Rental today! Rentacomputer offers a full line of MacBook Pro Rentals along with local delivery and installation anywhere in the United States!

One of the biggest highlights of Monday’s conference was Apple announcing a whole new music service called Apple Music. This is a $10 a month subscription streaming service, kind of like Spotify. Apple is making an app for Apple Music for Android devices too, which is a huge step for the company. It’ll be the first time ever that Apple releases an app for another smartphone!

Apple also announced two other softwares that would be open sourced. Its ResearchKit software is designed to help build apps and collect data for patients in an easier way for medical professionals. Swift is a coding language used to help make apps for Mac and iOS.

All in all, Apple is pretty much trying to say that its products will work better if you buy all the other appliances that go with it. Although Apple is making an app for their Apple Music on Androids, it still is going to run better on iPhones and iPads, especially with all the features that will be available with it. Apple is even upgrading Siri to know you on a more personal level, such as specific times of the day you’d like to work out and even what kind of music you mostly listen to. So be prepared for the next time you plan to work out and plug your headphones in and Siri will already be playing your type of music for your workout. Just don’t expect to get the same results with Apple Music using the Google Now voice assistant.

Apple isn’t only focused on music, it’s also trying to focus on making a commonly better home experience with its HomeKit software. They’re trying to get their products capability better by connecting with household products like window blinds or light bulbs. The company also said that the iOS 9 software’s CarPlay element will be able to tap into your vehicle’s data. Meaning, you won’t have to plug in your iPhone to your car with a Lightning connector, it’ll be able to just connect on its own.

Last, but certainly not least, Apple is also launching another app for Android called “Move to iOS.” It is an app to help convince Android smartphone users to switch over to iPhones. Apparently Apple just won’t take NO for an answer, “Just download the Move to iOS app to wirelessly switch from your Android device to your new iOS device.” This app will come out with iOS 9 later on this year. Just prepare yourself on seeing Apple trying to be a part of everything and anything.

Tim Cook Set to Give Entire Fortune to Charity

Apple CEO Tim Cook is, as one would expect, very wealthy. However, money doesn’t seem to be what is important to him. Cook has decided to use his money to pay for his nephew’s college education and then donate the rest of it to charity. There is a long list of wealthy philanthropists who donate most of their money to charity, and now he is joining in to make the list a little longer.

CNN says that his wealth is close to about a billion dollars. That is a ton of money to earn just to give it away. But, this goes along with what Steve Jobs and Apple have been about all along. Apple started out as a little indie company full of love with the desire to break down the boundaries and limits, to think outside the box, and to keep things simple and give back whenever they could. Tim Cook gave this statement on Jobs’ attitude toward everything in a recent interview with Fast Company:

“Steve felt that most people live in a small box. They think they can’t influence or change things a lot. I think he would probably call that a limited life. And more than anybody I’ve ever met, Steve never accepted that. He got each of us [his top executives] to reject that philosophy. If you can do that, then you can change things. If you embrace that the things that you can do are limitless, you can put your ding in the universe. You can change the world. That was the huge arc of his life, the common thread. That’s what drove him to have big ideas. Through his actions, way more than any preaching, he embedded this nonacceptance of the status quo into the company.”

There have been plenty of former CEOs that have given away a huge chunk of wealth to charitable causes. Bill Gates and Warren Buffett both did the exact same thing. The most famous, and probably the first was Chuck Feeney, the former CEO of Duty Free Shoppers. He was famous for saving his money, wearing cheap clothes and flying coach when he obviously didn’t need to. He put $4 billion into his Atlantic Philanthropist charitable trust which will be completely depleted before his death. After he did that, he has lived quietly and modestly ever since.

According to CEO of New York City nonprofit Living Cities Ben Hecht, “We’re seeing all this new wealth, especially West Coast wealth and technology wealth, which doesn’t necessarily have a place tied to it. They just have very different sensibilities. Many of them don’t have any interest in building a perpetual institution. I think it’s not in their culture. They want to give it away, and they want to be active in giving it away.”

What Apple is Planning for the Rest of 2015

Posted by admin | Posted in Consumer Electronics, New Products, Rumors | Posted on 10-03-2015

After being a little more quiet than they have been in the past, Apple has come back stronger than ever. They spent a whole year without even having a new product category, which isn’t like them at all. Launch events were feeling bland and forced, but in 2014 all of that changed.

The rollout event for the iPhone 6 was a huge deal. It was exciting, entertaining, and even sparked up some controversy that was actually really good for the company as a whole. After a year of nothing, Apple sprang right back to the top and owned the entire tech market once again.

Like anything though, the excitement of the iPhone 6 has finally worn off. But that’s ok because Apple is excited about what they have in store for the rest of this year.

Apple announced their partnership with IBM. This is a big deal. Apple really isn’t any stranger to the enterprise world, but a lot of the devices end up there just because employees prefer to use them and bring them in. It has been a slow process because they need to develop all of the necessary apps, but the Apple/IBM partnership is going to be seriously huge for both companies. Especially with the release of the infamous 12 inch iPad Pro coming out.

They were supposed to release the iPad Pro last year, but put it on hold to keep up with iPhone 6 demand and production. It’s almost guaranteed to come out this year, but rumor has it that it won’t really be available to the regular customer. It will probably be exclusively sent to companies to use and replace a lot of computers.

That’s not the only thing Apple has going for them this year. We all know that the iPhone 6s and the iPhone 6s Plus are going to come out by the end of this year. They will probably look exactly like the current models but come with a way faster processor, a better camera, and some new software. This is cool because when Apple put out the current processor in their phones, it was the best and fastest on the market by a lot. Are they going to crush the competition again this year with a crazy new chip? Probably. Hopefully. Almost certainly.

Let us also not forget that Apple bought Beats By Dre. No one really knows exactly what they are going to do with the company, but everything will be revealed later this year. With the Beats music streaming, it would seem like it would be a conflict with iTunes and iTunes radio and all. It will be very interesting to see what Apple does with this and how they integrate the two music services.

All of the Apple Home and Health stuff that we have been hearing so much about will finally come into existence this year as well. Right now we only have a Health app, which isn’t really enough to give us any huge clues as to what to expect.

Either way, one thing is for sure: it is going to be a huge year for Apple, and there is a ton to be excited about.
