iOS 9: Everything You Need To Know

9There are going to be a lot of awesome things that come along with iOS 9. Siri is getting a lot of huge improvements, there is a new split screen feature that allows you to run several different apps at the same time, better battery life, and a new Low Power mode are all things we have to look forward to.

A lot of people out there are wondering when they will be able to get their hands on iOS 9, or if their devices will even be compatible. Every year there is a new list of devices that aren’t able to get the new update. Some people are also scared that they might have to delete a ton of stuff to even be able to download the new operating system like many did when iOS 8 came out. That was a catastrophe. Well, if you have any of this on your mind, we have the answers. So don’t worry.

iOS 9 release date
Apple is going about this release a little bit differently than in the past. Now there will not only be a Developer Beta, but there will also be a public beta that you can get before the official release. Even though that is super cool, and it would be awesome to get a crack at it before everyone else, you should keep in mind that the OS will be unstable until the official release. So think for a bit before you commit.

Here is the release schedule:

Developer Beta: Available now
Public Beta: Available in early July
Official release of iOS 9: September

Will my device get iOS 9?
Like I said earlier, every year there is a list of devices that don’t make the cut and don’t get to have the new operating system. This makes sense though. Outdated devices sometimes have a lot of trouble running new features and codes that they weren’t designed for, and creating a stripped down version of the operating system wouldn’t make any sense because of how many key features would be left out. BUT, you should be glad to know that this year’s list is exactly the same as it was when iOS 8 came out. If you got the update then, you’ll get it this time around as well.

Space requirements
Ah, the moment you have all been waiting for. With iOS 8, lots of people had to tragically delete almost everything on their device to fit it. And then, didn’t have much storage space to do anything else with. The update last year was 4.6GB, which is ridiculous. This year, you will be pleased to know that iOS 9 will only take up 1.3GB of space. That is 350% less. So we all have that to be happy about.

This video came out today on Apple’s YouTube page. After it was up for only two hours, it already had 20,000 views and currently has almost 80,000. The main point to the video is to show off that they are using clean energy. They are building a 40-megawatt solar farm in China that will power all of their offices across the country, all of their offices are powered with clean energy already, and they are generating 12 million kilowatt hours of energy in Oregon using hydropower.

This is one of the most genius marketing tactics for Apple just like the ones implemented by the best boston SEO services. It may not seem that significant, but there is a lot to this whole idea. Across many different developing countries, there is a huge wave of consumer consciousness that includes issues like sustainability. This is a bigger factor than ever right now. 55% of global respondents in Nielsen’s survey say that they are willing to pay more for products and services from companies that dedicate themselves to creating a positive social and environmental impact. That is an increase in 50% in 2012 and 45% in 2011. Regionally, respondents in Asia-Pacific (64%), Latin America (63%) and Middle East/Africa (63%) exceed the global average and have increased 9, 13 and 10 percentage points since 2011. So knowing that, you can see why this is such a big deal, and why the video is absolutely genius on Apple’s part. Check it out!

Apple Could Be Breathing New Life Into The iPad With The Help Of A Huge Display

According to most of the speculations and rumors that have been going around for most of this year, late 2014 and early 2015 is going to be a huge time for Apple. They have the iPhone 6 that is expected to drop, different variations of the iPhone 6 that are expected to drop, and there have already been rumors and leaked photos of the next installment of the iPad Air.

When it comes to tablets, Apple pretty much invented the tablet market. Not only that, but they have always dominated it as well. In order for Apple to stay in their position as top dog in the tablet market, they are going to have to keep things as fresh and exciting as they did when they launched the original iPad.According to new reports, it looks like they are planning to launch their biggest iPad to date. As early as next year, we could be seeing a 12.9 inch iPad.The report comes from Bloomberg. They say that the company is currently working on a new iPad that will be much larger than any of the previous models. Right now we only have the 7.9-inch iPad mini and the 9.7-inch iPad. The Bloomberg report cites a few sources that have proven to be trustworthy in the past. They say that Apple has been working on this brand new iPad variation for over a year with different suppliers.

As stated earlier, this is a big time for Apple. This news is coming right as the company is getting ready to launch the next generation of the smartphone that started it all, the iPhone 6. The iPhone 6 is rumored to be coming in two different sizes, a 4.7-inch model and a larger version that comes with a 5.5-inch display. That launch is rumored to happen on September 9th.

The idea behind putting out a larger iPad would be to reintroduce the excitement that has always surrounded the iPad line of devices. Sales have really been slow for the iPad lately compared to previous years. Most consumers have focused more on upgrading their smartphones instead of upgrading their tablets. So, by giving people a huge display on an iPad, it gives them something to look forward to because you really can’t get a smartphone with an almost 13-inch screen. That would be crazy.

A larger iPad also means a more productive iPad as well. Apple has been trying to expand their business at the enterprise level, and this might just be one of the things that does it for them. A bigger iPad could have a huge role in the workplace. They are also going to be offering iPhones and iPads to businesses along with preloaded enterprise specific apps.

Apple’s New Patent Could Change Navigation Forever

I know you have all thought about this a million times, because I know that I think about it and even complain about it on a daily basis. What if a navigation app could not only give you the shortest distance or quickest general route… but could actually give you directions based on how many traffic lights, stop signs, and just generally annoying obstacles were along the path. Well, my friends, Apple’s new patent is just for that. It seems they are trying to make our lives easier and better.

On Tuesday the US Patent and Trademark office granted their new patent. It is called “Routing based on detected stops”. It is basically crowd-sourced navigation but taken up a few levels.

It’s not like different companies haven’t already attempted to do things like this. The problem is just that the result is always ineffective and doesn’t really work right. Waze and Google Maps both have crowd-sourcing things going for them, and it is really nice because we can get some real time data on where we are going and what is happening along the way. The problem is that there is just no way to be in depth enough to be incredibly useful. There is no way they are going to detect stop signs or stop lights or anything like that and take them into account when calculating your route. This idea is for a smarter system that will be much better, more productive, and will let us know about as many obstacles as possible.

The patent that Apple filed basically explains a navigation system that is going to use the GPS in whatever device you are using to collect any sort of stops that it detects you are making. This includes every stop sign, light, traffic jam, anything. After it collects the data from your GPS, it is analyzed to determine what kind of stop it is (stop sign or traffic light), and then it is uploaded to a remote server and shared with anyone else who is using the same GPS app.

This will allow you to ACTUALLY choose the quickest route to your destination. It will also greatly improve the estimated trip times and make them way more accurate. This could also even be able to tell you the best time of day to make your trip based on traffic data that it has collected. The GPS system is also used for the robotics field, to position and navigate in a long distance, and the robot compare the robot’s GPS data and the target’s GPS data to get the relative position between both, which guides the direction of motion for the robot later, this is very high technology that EMS Solutions in Utah works with.

Now, just because a patent has been filed and granted doesn’t always mean that an actual product is ever going to see the light of day. BUT, this is a REALLY good idea. And I feel like if anyone has the power and resources to make it a reality, Apple would be the company to make it happen.

New Product Categories From Apple in 2014

Despite the hype, 2013 was actually a pretty calm and quiet year for Apple. 2014 should be a much different and bigger year for the company, who says they have big plans in the works.

During the earlier part of 2013, Apple kept dropping strong hints about new product categories and expanding on the smartphone and tablet market as well. In the last part of 2013, we did see lots of new improvements on older products, but nothing that we could really call new. So, what are these huge new plans that Apple has in store for us? Is a new invention going to turn the whole industry upside down like the original iPhone did?

The iWatch

This isn’t really what I would call “big news”, considering the rumors of this product were floating around for months before it was even officially announced that they were in production. Companies like Samsung have already put out smartwatches (and have seen them fail), so how could this be the big new invention that has Apple so excited? Well, although I think something bigger may be in store, let’s face it… Apple is the kind of company that makes sure their products are perfect before they release them, to the point that it will make people wonder why other companies even tried. When the iPhone came out, cell phones had already been out forever. It wasn’t even the first smartphone, at all. But, it changed the way we looked at phones and smartphones forever. It was so inspiring that it almost felt like cell phones never even existed before that point. Could Apple’s iWatch be the next iPhone?

New, Larger iPhone models

It’s been rumored that Apple is working on iPhones with up to 5-inch screens, and according to The Wall Street Journal, they could even be working on 6-inch iPhones. This is a tough spot for Apple to be in because other smartphone companies are putting out phones with way larger screens, and now, the screen size has become the number one complaint from iPhone users. But that problem is not so simple to fix. Apple would have to find a way for app developers to redesign their apps for use with the new phones, or find a way to program the apps to be responsive to different screen sizes. But chances are, they already have it under control.

Other expected new products

Apple Television? Neat, but hardly a contender.  Moving on: There has been word on an iPad Pro coming soon. Adding the word “Air” to their last iPad seems like a hint toward things to come with newer models. But at the end of the day, consumers aren’t ready to turn to tablets for their everyday computing needs. It seems highly unlikely that this is the new and exciting product that Apple has been hinting at since April of last year, unless it ends up being some sort of super tablet that can do anything a MacBook Pro could do. That would be nuts, but it’s highly unlikely.

So, we already know about some new and exciting things to come from Apple this year, and we will have to keep our eyes peeled for what else is to come. My money on the iWatch though. It may not seem like a big deal now, but it might just change everything you thought you ever knew about watches or smart-gadgets.

It’s time for some more Apple rumors! The iPhone 5S and 5C are still fresh in our minds, it still feels like they came out just yesterday. But Apple has already spent hundreds of millions on the production of the iPhone 6. Here are a few more rumors going around about what we could be getting next year.

3D Vision

It has been confirmed that Apple has not only teamed up with PrimeSense, but they bought the whole company. PrimeSense is the same company that built the technology behind the Xbox Kinect motion sensor. It is said that Apple has already spent over $350 million dollars on the Israeli company.

Rumors of the purchase have been around for a while, and everyone automatically assumed that since Apple bought the company that they would be putting the new technology into a new TV. But it is starting to look like they will be looking beyond that and using the technology for a few new things, including the next iPhone release.

PrimeSense has refined their technology and has been able to make it so small that it actually could fit inside the next iPhone and bless it with new 3D sensing capabilities. If this is the case then people will be able to take pictures of any object or person and the camera would be able to determine the size and mass of the object. It seems like old technology that no one would care about after phones like HTC’s EVO 3D, but this goes even deeper. The new iPhone would be able to actually take pictures of items and measure them. For instance, if you need a new couch, you would be able to take a picture of your current one and your phone could give you suggestions on new ones that would fit in the same space. How neat?

iPad Pro?

It has been reported by the Korea Times that Apple is working on a new iPad with a 12.9 inch retina display. The current iPad Mini is 7.9 inches and the original is 9.7 inches. So, this would be a huge jump in size. This is reportedly expected to hit stores in the later part of next year, around the time that we would be seeing a new iPhone release.

Touch ID

The fingerprint reader in the home button of the iPhone 5S is still pretty fresh. Lots of people love it, but others can’t seem to get it to work for some reason. According to new reports, Apple filed a huge patent application with the World Intellectual Property Organization showing that they want to turn the Touch ID into a trackpad.

If this happens, people would be controlling their iPhones by twisting their finger over the home button. You would slide your finger left or right and the map display on the screen would scroll in the same direction. You would also use this to scroll while using the browser. Kind of seems like old BlackBerry technology to me, not that exciting. And as it turns out, I’m not the only person who thinks that. Do you think that a trackpad would be a step backwards for Apple?

Other rumors for the iPhone 6 include a full front display with no borders. It is said that the new display is going to be made with sapphire glass, the same glass used on the touch ID. Apple has reportedly spent a few hundred million on just the development of the machines needed to make high volumes of the glass.

An upgraded camera, external flash compatibility and 128GB storage are also all on the list of rumors.

iWatch could be here soon

Apple is a little bit late on the wearable game, but that might give them the advantage. Seeing where other companies are falling short and applying the knowledge to make a superior device could prove to be fruitful. Mass production of the new watch is said to be in full swing by early to mid 2014.

Apple Reportedly Working on Curved iPhone

Posted by jnolan | Posted in Consumer Electronics | Posted on 13-11-2013

It seems that after the release of the LG flex and the Samsung Galaxy Round, Apple has decided to take a stab at the curved smartphone market. It has been said that they are developing iPhones with curved glass screens that will also be revamped to have enhanced sensors to detect different levels of pressure, according to a new report.

Like the simultaneous release of the 5s and the 5c, two different models with screens of 4.7 inches and 5.5 inches are supposedly in the works. Both phones are said to use glass that curves downward at the edges, Bloomberg reported, citing an anonymous source who claims to be familiar with the plans. These screen sizes almost compete with with the Samsung’s Galaxy Note 3, which sports a gigantic 5.7-inch screen. For its part, Apple’s new iPhone 5S has a 4-inch screen.

The new phones would more than likely be released in the later part of next year, the source said, also claiming that Apple is also testing “pressure-sensitive technology,” which will sadly not be ready in time for the next iPhone launch.

As of the past few months, curved glass has become a smartphone trend among major tech companies. Samsung released its Galaxy Round phone, which has a 5.7-inch curved display, while LG is set to release its G Flex phone, which is curved from top to bottom.

Apple has not confirmed any of these rumors, and did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
