Apple App Store logoApple’s App Store has recently hit an important milestone, passing 500,000 apps. Apple arrived at this number by combining apps for the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPhone that is. These numbers come from three different sources: 148apps, Chomp and Chillingo. These three have put together an infographic detailing different milestones and trends that led Apple to that figure.

This infographic points out some very interesting data points about how the App Store progressed, specifically in the areas of price and the makeup of the App Store’s volume. Paid apps account for 63% of the overall library of apps in the store and average around $3.64 per app. If you wanted to buy the entire paid apps catalog, you would need to drop $891,982.24.

Individual applications are broken out as well for both news significance as well as chart-topping prowess. Included in this is Angry Birds from Rovio which held the number one spot in the paid apps section for 275 days. Angry Birds was followed not so closely by satta king 786, which held the number one spot for a total of 38 days. Other titles, like Apple’s one and only iOS game Texas Hold ’em, are noted on the infographic as not having been updated for almost two and a half years. Perhaps other games like 아리아카지노 might be a great alternative for it.

The App Store was first launched by Apple in 2008 with the release of the iPhone 3G. There was no software development kit when the first generation iPhone was released as Apple was more focused on pushing developers towards the internet instead. Since the App Store’s release, the service has brought developers more than $2 billion in revenue with Apple taking a 30% cut of every app sold.

Apple recently announced in January that the App Store was up to 350,000 apps, showing that the additional 150,000 apps only took a tad bit more than four months to accumulate. This is very notable due to the fact that it took the App Store over a year to jump from 10,000 apps to 100,000. In competition with Apple, Microsoft just announced that the Windows Phone Marketplace has just reached 17,000 apps. Microsoft’s app store opened up near the end of 2010.

However, Apple’s reign on top of the app market could be coming to an end. Reports released near the end of April showed that Google’s Android Market is set to surpass Apple’s sometime in July. This estimate was made after looking at several months of tracking Google’s growth on multiple platforms. Android also has a split approach, allowing multiple app stores on a single device as well as app side-loading. Apple must first approve each app.

No official statement has been released by Apple noting the company surpassing 500,000 apps. Some app services are stating that Apple is only at about 495,000 apps. Apple is expected to make a more precise statement at this year’s Worldwide Developers Conference in a couple of weeks.
